Chalgrove, 637966, 10½ miles, Explorer 171, (Chalgrove, Stadhampton, Newington, Berrick Salome, Brightwell Baldwin, Chalgrove)

From the main entrance to the church yard in Chalgrove go around to the right and the rear right take the footpath going to the right. At the ‘T’ junction go left to cross a steam and turn immediately right. Ignore footpath to right at the next path turn right over footbridge and follow path through to road. There turn right then left at main road, in 200yds turn left into doctors surgery car park to the right hand side of which is a footpath, take this through allotments. Go over stile into a very long field at the end of which over stile and footbridge into another field. Keep to the right hand fence, about half way along cross stile and turn left. Cross field to stile in mid fence , cross small field to metal gate, to the left of Ascott Farm buildings. Through second metal gate to road, turn right. At ‘T’ junction ahead turn left, pass barn and turn immediately right. Where path forks beyond second side of barn take right fork to keep fence on your left. Over stile, through thick hedge, straight ahead at path cross roads to further stile in corner of field. Follow enclosed path through to kissing gate, go straight ahead across Stadhampton green to main road (A329).

Follow road through Stadhampton , beyond garage bear left on A329 road. In 50yds bear left into Bear Lane, at ‘T’ junction turn left to pass Newell’s Farm. Where path forks immediately before Newell’s Pond go right. At the end of the pond bear left to go over waymarked stile.  At field boundary turn right, cross fields to exit onto farm track, turn right. Keeping Hill Farm on right diagonally cross field towards houses, cross stile and immediately left. With houses on right over stile into Great Holcombe farm yard. Turn left, bear right at fork in farm yard, go behind Leyland hedge (hedge now on your left). Over stile then diagonally across field to left of pond to cross footbridge. In field diagonally right to pass between houses to road. In 20yds turn left into enclosed footpath, over stile and up field to stile on horizon there right. Over further stile and into large field, slow climb up to plateau, continue forward with Ewe Farm over to left, to exit field onto road.

At road turn left, in 400yds turn left up farm track. Follow track around to pass wood on left in 250ydsafter wood turn right to cross field. Keep far corner of small wood to your right and fence / hedge on left with pond on right. Cross footbridge then diagonally left to cross stile to road. At road turn right, follow road around to enter Berrick Salome. Just before the pub turn left on road towards church. Follow road around and where road goes sharply right continue ahead on bridleway. In ¾ mile cross minor road, in a further ½ mile ahead at track cross roads and a further ½ mile at ‘T’ junction turn right. At next junction turn left to go through Brightwell Baldwin. Pass church on left and take footpath on left to cross in front of Brightwell Park Farm. Ignore paths to left and right and follow path across field to pass in front of Cadwell Farm which is on your left. Follow path into wood and bear left, at exit onto road turn right. In 300yds at end of wood on right look for footpath on right, over stile and cross field to road. Turn right and follow road to main road here left then first left into Church Lane. Follow lane back to Chalgrove church.
